Black currant contains valuable nutrients and for human health useful substances. From sugars it mainly includes glucoses (grape sugar) and fructose (fruit sugar). These are easy to digest and represent rich sources of energy at the same time. The total content of sugars in black currant is 5.5 to 7.5 %.
Out of all grown types of fruit, black currant contains the biggest amount of vitamin C (150 to 220 mg in 100 g of fruit). Vitamin C fights against infectious diseases, if helps create connective tissue, regenerates bone tissue and heals wounds. It is also known for its arteriosclerosis prevention.
